AI search doesn't just rank your dealership anymore; it forms a judgment about it. On this week's Auto Collabs, Chad Graves of Reunion Marketing joined Paul and Kyle to unpack what that shift actually means day-to-day, and three things dealers can start doing about it today.
1. Your About Us and Testimonials Pages Aren't Decoration Anymore
For years, the About Us and testimonials pages were the industry's checkbox pages, present, rarely touched, mostly ignored. That's no longer defensible. AI tools researching a dealership pull from far more than a Google Business Profile now, they pull from review sites, forums, and anything else with a sentiment signal attached, and they form an actual opinion from it. If a dealership hasn't told its own story clearly, something else fills that gap, usually an old review or a stray comment nobody remembers exists.
Do this today
Walk your own showroom. Every plaque on the wall, every community sponsorship, every charity event, every award, none of it counts if it only lives on a wall. Get it off the wall and onto the pages AI tools are actually reading.
2. Cost Per Lead Is About to Stop Telling You What You Think It Tells You
Zero-click search sat at 45% back in 2016. It's now measured at 68%, and climbing. That means a growing share of shoppers are getting their questions fully answered inside an AI conversation, vehicle specs, comparisons, even reputation, without ever landing on a dealership's website or submitting a form. Dealerships built entirely around chasing lead volume and lowering cost per lead are optimizing for a funnel shoppers are increasingly skipping altogether.
Do this today
Stop treating lead count as your only health metric. If leads are down but sales, phone calls, or walk-ins are steady or up, that's not a red flag, that's a shopper who did their research elsewhere and arrived ready to buy. Track that shift instead of panicking over the lead number alone.
3. Brand and Community Involvement Aren't the "Soft" Metrics Anymore
Search fragmenting across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and traditional Google means there's no longer one single channel to optimize for. What doesn't fragment, and doesn't get replaced by the next platform shift, is a dealership's actual reputation in its community. The trust built through consistent local involvement holds up regardless of which AI tool a shopper happens to be using that day, because it's not something any algorithm can manufacture on a competitor's behalf.
Do this today
Pick one piece of community work your store has done that's never been publicized, sponsorships, donations, local events, anything, and get it in front of your marketing team this week. If it's sitting untold, it's doing you no good at all.

The dealerships that adapt won't be the ones with the best SEO trick. They'll be the ones whose real story finally gets told.
Every one of these shifts points at the same underlying problem: dealerships have been sitting on genuine proof of trustworthiness, community ties, and reputation, and simply not putting it anywhere an AI system or a shopper could find it. That's a fixable problem, and unlike chasing the next algorithm update, it's one that doesn't need to be solved again next year.
