🧰 Walser Automotive Group & WSU Tech: Fueling the Future of Auto Technicians
The Walser Automotive Group is making some serious moves to tackle the technician shortage—and they’re doing it in style. Their recent partnership expansion with WSU Tech is all about paving the way for the next generation of skilled auto technicians, ensuring the industry doesn't run out of steam anytime soon.
After years of working together, the Walser Foundation just took things to the next level by funding a multi-year agreement that’s revitalizing WSU Tech's automotive service lab. This isn’t just about fresh paint and new equipment—it’s a full-blown investment in the future. The 30,000-square-foot lab now features cutting-edge spaces, including a heavy truck lab and an alternative fuels lab, catering to an industry that's always shifting gears.
Walser’s collaboration isn't just a one-and-done deal, either. So far, 113 of Walser's technicians have passed their ASE certification exams with support from WSU Tech, which is impressive given how challenging these tests can be. This kind of ongoing education isn’t just helping techs get certified; it’s helping them thrive in their careers, whether they’re just starting or already deep in the game.
👂️ Why This Matters for Dealers Everywhere

Here's where it gets real: the auto industry is facing a significant technician shortage. Studies show demand for skilled techs is outpacing supply by 3 to 1. That’s why partnerships like this are so crucial. It’s more than just a ribbon-cutting ceremony or press release—it’s a roadmap for how dealers can step up, invest in their communities, and build pathways for the workforce of tomorrow.
The Walser Foundation made this possible by designating 5% of all pre-tax earnings toward education and workforce development initiatives, proving that giving back isn't just a nice idea—it's a business strategy that pays dividends in talent and community growth.
Nancy Warner, Director of the Walser Foundation, summed it up perfectly: “The decision to invest in this multi-year grant ensures WSU Tech students have access to hands-on learning and career readiness.” And the benefits aren’t just flowing one way. Walser's investment in WSU Tech is creating a pipeline of talent that ensures both Walser and the industry at large are ready to roll into the future.
