🚙 Tariff Talk, Capitol Subaru, and The Origin of Black Friday
TOGETHER WITH
Welcome to Black Friday, Friend!
Did you know the term “Black Friday” originally came from the chaos of traffic and crowds in 1960s Philadelphia? Local police used it to describe the day after Thanksgiving when the city turned into a shopping frenzy. But in the 1980s, retailers flipped the script, tying it to a more positive idea: the day they went from being “in the red” (losing money) to “in the black” (turning a profit).
It has nothing to do with those videos of people fighting for TVs at all. Suppose if it were, we’d call it “Dark Friday.”

🦄 A Dream Come True with Capital Subaru
Del Grande Dealer Group / Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area
Capitol Subaru, part of the Del Grande Dealer Group (DGDG), recently teamed up with Make-A-Wish® Greater Bay Area to create a magical day for six-year-old Abbey from San Lorenzo. Abbey, who’s battling Leukemia, got the surprise of a lifetime at a princess-themed party where she found out her wish to visit Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii had come true.
The celebration was packed with fun—her favorite snacks, special gifts, a visit from a princess, and even a miniature unicorn named “Olaf.”
Surrounded by family, friends, and magical equines, Abbey learned her biggest wish had been granted: she and her family be heading to Hawaii on December 1st.
The celebration highlights Capitol Subaru’s commitment to giving back through the Subaru Share the Love® Event and DGDG Does Good, which have raised over $380,000 locally to help grant wishes. CEO Betsy Biern of Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area praised the partnership, saying, “Together, we’re making a meaningful impact in our community, one wish at a time.”
