Yesterday, Paul and I (Kyle) were reminiscing on the last couple years of ASOTU. Legit when we say we are grateful for this community, it is probably a massive understatement.
Both the encouragement to us and the commitment to this industry of every single person in the ASOTU community are incredible.

MORE THAN CARS MOMENTS
Turkeys Aplenty
Giphy/MTV
On Monday, the West Herr Automotive Group made Thanksgiving a whole lot brighter for Rochester families. Led by their big-hearted President, Scott Bieler, the team dropped off a whopping 300 frozen turkeys and heaps of Thanksgiving goodies at the West Herr Rochester Auditorium Theatre.
But here's the real kicker — those 300 turkeys are just a small part of a much bigger haul. West Herr's employees and customers have been busy bees, gathering over $100,000 worth of turkeys and more than 5,000 bags of food items over the past month to distribute to struggling families.
It's clear that a sense of community is alive and well in Rochester, with volunteers from six local organizations joining forces to get those Thanksgiving essentials to families in need.
As West Herr wraps up its tour across Western New York, it's evident that their generosity will bring smiles and full bellies to thousands this holiday season. Now that's what we call spreading the Thanksgiving spirit!

CULTURE
Presidential Pardon
Jacquelyn Martin / AP
The Presidential Turkey Pardon at the White House, a longstanding tradition filled with humor and Thanksgiving spirit, has evolved into a cherished annual event. This year, President Biden marked the event by pardoning turkeys "Liberty" and "Bell" from Minnesota. 🗽🔔
Here are some more fun facts about the annual event:
🦃 Disputed Official Origins: The exact start of the turkey pardoning tradition is debated. While President Biden cited it as the 76th anniversary, suggesting a start in 1947 with President Truman, the White House Historical Association clarifies that regular pardoning began with President Reagan in 1981 and was formalized by President George H.W. Bush in 1989.
🦃 Long History: Regardless of the official first event, the practice of gifting turkeys to U.S. Presidents dates back to at least the 1870s, initiated by Rhode Island poultry dealer Horace Vose with President Grant. This tradition has continued for decades, evolving into a national symbol of goodwill.
🦃 Clever Nicknames: A charming element of the tradition is the president naming the turkeys. Notable names include “Marshmallow” and “Yam” by President George W. Bush in 2005, “Tater” and “Tot” by President Obama in 2016.
🦃 Well-Trained Birds: Each year, the National Turkey Federation chairman selects a local turkey farmer to raise the “presidential flock” for the White House event. These turkeys are specially raised and trained for media appearances and crowd interactions.
